So, yesterday was Mardi Gras. This French term translates to Fat Tuesday. Traditionally people will indulge in fatty foods on this day. I went out in search of the opposite of greasy food. This led me to the All Shook Up Café and Juice Bar.
The first thing you’ll notice when walking into this place is the 50’s theme. There’s black and white tile floor, Elvis Presley pictures, a juke box, a baby pink fridge, and more. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported back in time. All that was missing was a waitress in roller skates. The next impressive thing about this place is the menu.
Everything on their menu is healthy! They believe the cliché of “ you are what you eat”. So, the menu has meat that is anti-biotic and hormone free, grass fed cheeses, and organic produce. They only use sprouted grain breads or wraps that help customers keep their glycemic index low. Apart from this they have gluten free options. Their smoothies and juices use real organic fruit and have no added sugars. But if you have a sweet tooth they use agave as a sweetner. So, no matter what you select to eat or drink here you can feel good about it.
I ended up selecting the Beef Burger, which came with roasted sweet potato fries. My burger was made with grass feed beef from a local farm. This made a real difference in the taste. It tasted clean and fresh, like beef should. As a drink I got the Peppermint Twist. This is a cucumber, apple, and mint juice. I had two friends come with me to check out the place. One got the Rockin’ Robin a sandwich with roasted chicken, jicama, spinach, and sun dried tomatoes. The other had the Little Egypt a wrap with cucumber, snow pea sprouts, carrots, red onion, and Hummus.
The three of us left happy and full. It’s a place that we’ll definitely go back to and highly recommend. So, the next time you’re looking for a healthier alternative to fried food definitely head here. You can get breakfast, lunch, dinner, and excellent customer service here.
